Sarah and James are the bride and groom that decided to elope in a very special and unique place. It has to be one of the most breathtaking scenarios I have ever photographed!
We really did an elopement inside a volcano! Obviously, this volcano it’s no longer active. It has been silent since 1563 and it’s now a beautiful lake. Its name is “Lagoa do Fogo”. Lake of Fire in English. A truly wonderful spot to elope. It really makes sense to elope to somewhere where you will find peace and quiet. It gives true meaning to what an elopement is supposed to be. Two lovebirds sharing a unique moment without a rigid schedule or hundreds of guests. All of this magic happened in one of the most beautiful places in the world, the Azores. Nine beautiful and unique islands in the middle of the Atlantic, between Portugal and the United States. If you haven’t, you should definitely go there.
Sarah and James really made this volcano elopement something for themselves. They helped one another in this adventure, getting ready together, really embracing this wedding as a story that they’ll share together. Sarah is a very talented girl, so she did her own hair, makeup, and bouquet!
This volcano elopement started when Sarah and James were at the top of the mountain. Then they climbed down for almost an hour to exchange vows near the lake. It was something else to be there, surrounded by the strong colors of vegetation and the blue and green that paint the lake! The clouds were starting to cover the mountains and, by the end of the vows, small drops of water began to fall. Sarah and James were surrounded by clouds, as they became part of nature. This moment alone made this volcano elopement proof of the complicity between these two people, united forever in love and life.
The grandiosity of nature does make you feel rather small at times. Sarah and James though, seemed like a part of this piece of earth, becoming as grand as nature itself. This is the true power of love, it makes you feel bigger than yourself!
After all of the emotions and unique feelings that this wedding provoked, it was time to finish this glorious journey with a magnificent dinner. Given that Portuguese food is kind of awesome, it was truly the best way to end the day!
Since Sarah and James wanted their families to be the first to know that they got married, they sent a beautiful letter to their parents.
This elopement inside a volcano is one of those moments that I know I’ll never forget. I am certain that Sarah and James’s words are not enough to express what they felt. It was unique, magic and breathtaking. A story of two people sharing their love with one another in a magnificent natural scenario!
